Deep Inside Raylene

"Deep Inside Raylene" is a compilation of videos starring the porn star Raylene. This is the latest in a long line of "Deep Inside" videos, and if I recall correctly, the very first one was "Deep Inside Seka" (Seka being one of the biggest porn stars of the so-called "Golden Age" of porn in the 1970s and 1980s). There's nothing really special about these videos, and they deliver exactly what they promise: a collection of scenes involving one particular porn star. Raylene has dark hair, large artificial breasts, and (if this compilation disc is any indication) a tendency to do rather generic scenes.

I originally tried to describe each scene, but there's really no point. All of the scenes have similar pacing and atmosphere, and they are typically around 10 minutes long, which is unusually short for modern porn (a typical modern porn scene lasts around 20 to 30 minutes). This means there's a lot of them (12, in fact), and this review would become unreasonably long (especially for such a mundane film) if I tried to describe every scene. Let's just say that there's a certain uniformity to the scenes even though they all appear to have come from different source movies, and the result is a certain blandness. These scenes aren't particularly bad, nor are they particularly great either. All I can say is that they are competently performed and directed, but honestly, ten minutes is too short for a sex scene.

With such short scene lengths, you can probably guess that they don't include any kind of story or setup. Each scene basically starts with Raylene and at least one other person kissing or caressing, followed by a very swift run through the usual sequence of disrobing, foreplay, and basic intercourse. A couple of the scenes include anal. None of them include any abusive behaviour, and they generally employ some sort of low-level "romantic" music as the background accompaniment. I don't want to sound too critical because it's not a bad film for its purpose, but I suspect that its purpose is not my purpose. I like a certain level of raunch in a porno movie; not too much and not too little. It's a particular balancing point that probably differs from viewer to viewer, but in my personal view, this movie is ... bland.

It should be noted that the disc also contains some other scenes in the bonus features, one of which is called "Cum Lovers" and one of which is called "Hardcore Anal". In all of these scenes, there's that same blandness. Perhaps that's a function of the parent studio, Vivid. Certain production houses tend to have a "signature" to their work, and Vivid appears to fall into this category.
