Double Penetration 2

Michael Ninn's Double Penetration 2 must be an incredibly creative film. Just look at the title: it's not just Double Penetration 2, it's Michael Ninn's Double Penetration 2. By putting his name on the marquee, he shows that this is not just an ordinary porno. It is an artist's porno. It's sort of like looking at a picture that has someone's name scrawled on the lower right corner. Surely, if someone wrote his name on it, it must be art!

Best of all, it was in the "Couples" section of the adult video store, so it must be high art. And the cover picture shows a woman tastefully covering her important bits: even more proof that this is not just porn, but art porn.

So, onto the first scene! What creative wizardry will I see today? Ah, it starts with a naked man and a half-naked woman (Katsumi), with a strobe light and a smoke machine in the background. Hmmm, this isn't all that creative. In fact, it looks like every god-damned music video ever made throughout the 1980s. I'm half-expecting to see Jon Bon Jovi show up any second. But he never does, and the scene shows Katsumi dancing and gyrating around the man as he stands there like a statue, to the sounds of the kind of music you normally hear in the background on dating hot-line commercials. This ... oh so creative ... activity continues for two long minutes, and then the scene instantly transitions to Katsumi being double penetrated. No segue at all, no foreplay, not even an explanation of where the second guy came from. And the sex scene itself is completely conventional, like anything you'd see in a typical gonzo fuck flick except that it only lasts 7 minutes.

What the fuck? I mean seriously, what the fuck? What is the point of an artsy production if it turns out to be nothing more than a standard gonzo video with nice packaging? It actually has a much less creative setup than a typical scene from such artistic productions as Black Gangbangers., and it doesn't even show such niceties as the moment of initial penetration. If I wanted bog-standard gonzo-style porn, why would I watch this instead of a real gonzo porn, where the sex scenes will be much longer and the fucking more intense?

Oh well, that was a bust. On to scene #2, which will live up to the film's implied promise of artistic creativity! OK, it's starting now. Blonde Melissa Lauren is walking around running her hands over herself while more sex hot-line background music plays ... in fact, it looks and sounds exactly like a sex hot-line commercial, but without the 1-900 numbers and droning voice-over promising hot girls and sexy talk. And now we can expect to see a more creative segue into the sex ... nope, it's another instant transition to a totally generic scene where she is getting fucked already. Ho-hum. At least this time the scene lasts a little longer: more than ten minutes. Still too short and too perfunctory for a video which has such pretensions.

So far we're 0 for 2. Maybe scene #3 will be better. And ... it's Venus and Wanda Curtis, walking around provocatively in a fancy bedroom while more sex hot-line background music plays. And ... yes, it's another instant transition to a girl getting fucked. Eventually, one of the other girls dons a strap-on to join in for the DP. At least this scene has a bit more heat than the previous two, although the annoyingly perfunctory quasi-setup (just enough to waste time, not enough to be a setup) doesn't score any extra points. And it's still a bit short: only 13 minutes total.

So far, this movie is getting on my nerves. Not that I have a problem with gonzo DP scenes, but if I'm going to watch gonzo, I want raunch. I want endurance too. In gonzo films, the girls should be getting hammered so hard and so long that they check their tooth fillings afterward to see if they're still in place. Otherwise, what's the point?

In scene #4, we try a slightly different tack: it's a house party with several couples, and they all get busy. Not too imaginative, but it's an improvement over the first three scenes, especially since one of the women in Sandra Romain. Sandy is a great performer, and she likes to take an ass-fuck so hard that you'd think she was paying off a mortgage. This film isn't one of her most athletic performances, but she still puts in a good effort. This is the first good scene of the movie, and it's also the longest, at 14 minutes (although that's still very short).

Scene #5 stars Victoria Sin, and we're back to the "show a girl walking around provocatively and then abruptly switch to the sex" model. You have to ask, though: what makes the scene stand out? At least in the dinner scene, it was a bit different. There was a dinner party, which is something of a scenario. The guy kept his suit on while he ass-fucked Sandra Romain; that's different too. This scene, on the other hand, is completely generic. It's not a bad scene per se, but there's just nothing to make the scene stand out. And at 12 minutes in length, it doesn't even have quantity on its side. Personally, I think 20 minutes or more is a good length for a porno scene.

Scene #6 stars Erica Vachs in some sort of medieval setting, surrounded by monks in some sort of old stone church building. She seduces one of them, and then for some strange reason, the scene shifts to her stripping and dancing in an outdoor area. Then it abruptly switches back to Erica, and she's getting a DP. The scene isn't bad but it lasts around 8 minutes, which is just ridiculously short.

Scene #7 stars Michelle Michaels (dressed in a Dick Tracy outfit for some reason) and Shayla Laveaux as a waitress in a cheap 1950s-style diner. Shayla is a nasty girl, so it should come as no surprise that she volunteers to get on top of a guy while Michelle straps on a dildo and rams her ass. And she likes it, which is always good to see. Unfortunately, this scene only lasts 9 minutes, which is much too short.

Dee stars in the eighth scene, which unfortunately opens up to some kind of rap music. Not to sound overly close-minded or anything, but I hate rap music and so does Rebecca, so this scene was not going to be a big hit in our household. Your mileage may vary, but we skipped it. It's too bad about the music, because Dee is a pretty energetic performer and seems to really enjoy her DP, although the introduction was completely generic. This scene lasts roughly 11 minutes.

Anna Karen stars in the ninth scene, which starts with a weird slow-mo intro that makes no sense and then abruptly segues to her already getting the DP. 5 minutes later, the scene is over. Look, I know a lot of people have limited staying power, but come on: who wants these short scenes?

Zara Mars stars in the tenth and final scene of this movie. Once again, it starts by simply showing her walking around for a while, trying to act seductive, and then abruptly switching to a sex scene already in progress. Zara is a fine performer and she takes her DP with aplomb, but by the time this scene gets done with its seemingly endless slow-mo setup, there's only enough time left to give you less than five minutes of sex scene.

In conclusion, the sex scenes in this movie are too short, and it wastes time on setups that go nowhere because it always switches directly from the setup (which usually looks like a late night phone sex hotline commercial) to a sex scene already in progress. All of the scenes are competently done, the performers are all hot, and I can't fault the production quality, but I take issue with the choices, particularly the decision to put ten short scenes on the disc rather than a smaller number of longer and better-done scenes.
